Location: 730 Cochrane Dr #1,Markham ( Duncan Academy , spacious place with free Wi-Fi , indoor badminton court and table tennis room) 

Eligibility: CFC membership required

Rating: Sections will be determined using the highest of CFC or FIDE rating. All sections will be CFC rated. O1900 and U1900 will also be FIDE rated.

Registration: Online registration ends on June 26th at 11:00 PM. No on-site registration will be accepted.  

Capacity: 150 players

Time Control: 90 minutes + 30 seconds a move

Format: 5 Rounds Swiss 

Section: O1900; U1900; U1500

Schedule:  

Round 1: Friday, June 27th, 6:30 pm

Round 2: Saturday, June 28th, 10:00 am

Round 3: Saturday, June 28th, 4:00 pm

Round 4: Sunday,  June 29th , 10:00 am

Round 5: Sunday,  June 29th, 4:00 pm

The default forfeit time for any game is 30 min

Entry Fees: $90 before May 15th; $110 before June 1st; Regular is $130/entry.  Free entry for players with a CFC regular rating over 2200 or FIDE  regular rating over 2000. Players aged 60 and above with a CFC rating of 1600 or higher are also eligible for free entry. Limited to 10 spots.

Playing up: Add $20 if playing up. A player must be within 100 points of the rating floor for the section they wish to play up in.

Byes: A maximum of two half point byes in the first 3 rounds if requested with entry; zero points byes are allowed for round 4 and 5; All bye requests must be emailed to [email protected]

Prizes: 

• O1900:$300-$200-$100 Plus Championship Trophy and Medals
• U1900: $250-$150 Plus Championship Trophy and Medals
• U1500: $250-$150 Plus Championship Trophy and Medals
• Prize money is split between winners in case of a tie.  

Special Bonus Prize:

Players who participate in both the Chess4win May Markham Open and Chess4win June Markham Open will accumulate points across the two tournaments. The Top 3 overall scorers (ties allowed; prize will be shared if tied) will share a $1,000 bonus prize pool(Players are encouraged to register for both tournaments. Free entry players are not eligible for this special prize.):

🥇 1st Place – $500
🥈 2nd Place – $300
🥉 3rd Place – $200

Tiebreak Rules: 1) Direct encounter 2) Buchholz 3) Number of games won (not including forfeits) 4) Sonneborn-Berger 

Special Notes:  The organizer will supply all chess pieces, chess boards, and clocks.

Cancellation Fees: A $10 processing fee will be applied for any cancellation prior to June 15th. After June 15th, no refunds will be given.
